1) The information we collect

• Identity & contact: name, email, phone, address/suburb.
• Application details: foster/adoption info (household, pet history), volunteer preferences.
• Donation & purchase details: transaction amount/date, method, last 4 digits (handled by our payment processor).
• Comms preferences: newsletter opt-ins, event registrations.
• Website data: IP address, device, pages viewed, cookies/analytics.
• Photos & stories: with consent (e.g., adoption updates, event photos).

2) How we collect it

• Forms on our website (adopt/foster/volunteer/contact), PetRescue enquiry forms, WooCommerce checkout, event registrations, email and social messages.
• Analytics/advertising tools (e.g., GA, Meta pixel) using cookies and similar tech. You can block cookies in your browser, but some features may not work.

3) Why we use it

• Assessing and administering adoptions, fostering, volunteering and events.
• Processing donations and shop purchases, issuing tax receipts (for eligible gifts), and supporter care.
• Safety and vet care coordination for animals in our program.
• Updates and marketing you’ve agreed to (you can opt out anytime).
• Site security, analytics and improvement.

Direct marketing by email/SMS must follow Australian spam rules—consent, identification and easy unsubscribe

4) When we share it

We use trusted service providers to run our operations—for example: website/hosting, email tools, payment processors (e.g., Stripe/PayPal), PetRescue forms, analytics, and couriers (for merch). They may be in Australia or overseas. We only share what’s necessary and require reasonable safeguards.

5) Storage & security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access or disclosure, and to destroy or de-identify it when no longer required and permitted by law.

6) Access and correction

You can request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask for corrections if it’s inaccurate, out-of-date or incomplete. We’ll respond within a reasonable time (usually 30 days). APP 12/13 give you these rights.

7) Making a privacy complaint

Please contact us first if you’re concerned about how we handled your information. If we don’t resolve it within 30 days, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

8) Children

We collect a parent/guardian’s contact details where applications involve children and seek consent for any photos/stories we publish.

9) Links and social media

Our site links to third-party websites and social platforms. Their privacy practices are their own.

10) Updates to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect operational or legal changes. The latest version is posted here.
